Free Trainer/resource person on open source software

Dear All,

First of all i wish a very happy Librarians day to all. Today i formally announce my small contribution  for helping people who need some help in implementation of open source software and conducting workshop on that but could not do due to some financial constraints. I would like to offer my services maximum 3/4 times in a year WITHOUT charging any Traveling/food/honorarium (accommodation i expect) expenses to nearby regions (maximum for two days, Saturday and Sunday) for implementation/conducting workshops on Open source software like Koha, DSpace, Joomla, Newgenlib etc.

Further, anybody can come to my home during Saturday and Sunday to share my experience with them on the above tools with prior discussions, i hope my family will allow me and manage your free boarding and lodging at my small home at NIT Rourkela.

Thanking You.

    Dear Sir,
I am sajid from calicut Kerala,Here we are using KOHA for our NewsPaper publishing company very successfully. Now we want to implement an open source for our digital library other than DSPACE.We are trying to implement a php based digital library OMEKA. Please help us to make a better decision on this with your better experience.

    Regards
    sajid (Asst Programmer)

    1. Dear Mr. Sajid,

I do not have working experience on OMEKA but option wise DSpace and Eprint is almost same just back end is different, before choosing open source software it is necessary to know its community support quality, as you may be knowing Koha support is very strong. So my view is just check which satisfy your requirements and having good community support. Further as a programmer you can check your feasibility and compatibility also with the available software i.e. which you can handle/problem shoot better.

        1. Hello, Asanali,

You may refer the link http://itshelp.co.in/category/data-conversion/ and https://www.google.co.in/search?q=data+conversion+excel+to+koha&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=-XnLVcuOG8SHuASi76SAAg , Further you have to pay attention on Local field 952 of Koha where accession number, call number, volume etc is stored. So my view is please enter some data in Koha than export it in MARC format and accordingly you convert your current csv file into marc file.

Please feel free to contact for further details, How much data you have? How ever i can support you online also in data migrations and implementations of Koha, if you wish i can provide training and implementation of Koha on site as well by charging only for traveling and accommodations.

          Thanking You

  6. Surajit Sarkar

    Sir,
we wonder abt your initiative and cooperation……
on this occasion, I want to know sir, that what should be the foundation knowledge we should have before going to learn open source software like koha, nwgenlibe or Dspace and reltated softwares?
I am also from library science fraternity without any knowldge on computer programming and advance computer operation techniques. I have only a operational experience in Libsys and nothing more.
    regards,
    Surajit.

    1. Dear Mr. Surjit,

No foundation like thing is require to learn these Softwares , since you have operational knowledge of Libsys software so you will have no problem to know the operational skills of any automation software in library because its just a matter of finding the options where is what. You just need some skills to install and configure these softwares if some advance features need to be activated/deactivated and for that i think the documents which is available on internet is sufficient as well as community will help you also in case of any difficulty.

      Thanking You.
